故事讲述了政治家族宇田家的孙女被绑架，而绑匪提出的要求不是钱，而是让政治家召开记者发布会，承认罪状。中岛健人扮演主人公宇田晄司，是内阁府副大臣宇田清治郎（堤真一）的次子，他对自己父亲的行为一直存在以后，不得已担任父亲的秘书，而绑架事件让宇田家陷入了前所未有的窘境...。影片的主人公是由朱丽安·摩尔饰演的琳达这位40岁未婚的大龄女青年，她在宾夕法尼亚州的小镇过着平淡乏味的高中英语老师生活。而当她从前最喜欢的学生杰森以一个失败剧作家的身份从纽约回到小镇时，她的生活发生了意外的变化。她说服这位学生和她一起去制作一部未完成的舞台剧，但是计划发生了一些偏差……。A film director gathers his favorite actresses, those he worked with and those he loved.
